YellowHead West

YHW is the operating entity of Yellowhead Pickleball Club, incorporated in Alberta as a Non Profit Society. The society's prime purposes are:

  1. To facilitate the growth and development of pickleball in the Yellowhead West area throughout the entire year, for the enjoyment, health and social engagement of all players of all ages and abilities.
  2. To promote introduction of pickleball to new players of all abilities and ages.
  3. To offer organized, developmental and competitive play for players of all abilities.
  4. To ensure opportunities for the continued development of all players in a collegial and sportsmanlike environment.
  5. To secure, lease, expand and develop playing facilities as needed.
  6. To emphasize respect for the rights and opportunities of others within the sport.

The club was initially formed for the 2018-2019 season with the primary purpose of securing and providing more winter indoor playing space for area players. This was a formal continuation of an initiative started by one of our founding members when he secured indoor space on his own for local players to play at a local school with three courts in the 2017-2018 season on weekends.  At the time, there was no club-booked space, nor was there adequate dedicated winter indoor space in the area. The following season, YHW approached the Town of Stony Plain regarding booking space in the Heritage Pavilion. YHW and the town then came to a long-term agreement. With the support of a benefactor, we now have seven dedicated full-size indoor courts that allow play at a number of levels, from learning to play to the most advanced. This season we currently have over 250 Registered players.
